Sandro Savino Quintet

A project that reimagines Italian melody with great taste and intelligence, striking a balance between composition, improvisation, and collective sound

The Sandro Savino Quintet is a project conceived and directed by the Materan pianist Sandro Savino. The band features Fabrizio Gaudino on trumpet and flugelhorn, Gianfranco Menzella on tenor sax, Sandro Savino on piano, Giampaolo Laurentaci on double bass, and Fabio Accardi on drums.

The quintet offers a reimagining of a repertoire of Italian songs and has recently recorded an album released by Alfamusic that explores and reinterprets the essence of Italian melody.

The album is titled "Italians do it better", intended as a playful provocation; it contains seven tracks, including five famous Italian songs and two unreleased tracks composed by Savino. The entire project is conceived and arranged to be enjoyed by a diverse audience.

The musicians, closely knit and driven by a sensitive affinity, promise a listening experience that is both light and profound, delicate and engaging at the same time. The arrangement structures balance and highlight the instrumental characteristics of every band member.

This is the first in a series of recordings dedicated to Italian melody that Savino plans to release. In this first album, it is possible to perceive different aspects of his musicality, among which his skill as a refined arranger stands out—never predictable and always in search of captivating sound solutions.
